Nail clipping

Hi,

I think my little best friends nails need clipping, he is permanently getting caught on carpets and such...

I have bought a guillotine clipper...


What you guys think????

I use my dremmel on everyone now. Its so much easier to not get in the quick with the dark nails and it surprisingly bothers the others less.

Just make sure you don't cut into the quick and you'll be fine.

if in error you do cut the quick, keep a bar of soap handy and plug the toenail up with the bar soap. I have not had to do this but this was told to me a long time ago?

Nail trimmers are in my opinion a matter of personal preference. It is also a good idea to keep a blood-stop powder on hand just in case you cut one a little too short Defiantly get your dogs nails clipped if they are catching on things Nails should be short enought that when your dog stands, the nails do not touch the ground or make noise!! It is a good idea to trim every two weeks, especially if the nails are long now...it may take time to get them back down to where they need to be.

blood-stop powder or a little flour works too. I just cut off the snaggly sharp tips. Right now one of my dachshunds nails are ridicously long, but there so long and so thick Im afriad to cut them (plus she hates it). So im just waiting for the exam we have soon to have the vet cut them.

I work for a vet and you're right, daschund nails are some of the most difficult to cut! Not only are their short little legs hard to hold still, but they tend to have think nails with long quicks...if I had one I'd take it to the vet for trims too, except that would mean I'd end up doing it myself anyway.
