Practical jokes are a lot like surprises: some people like them, and some people don't. And no matter what, the people who don't like them wont like them. A F D is the day that people play pranks. And if one pushes you a little too far... Well.. Just assume it was unintentional and wait for midnight...

While that may be true....

It wouldn't hurt the mods to give a simple apology to those who were personally insulted by it.... instead of make fun of them further.

I think THAT is the real issue here. not the joke but the continued poking at those who were insulted by it.
