running away

my new puppy runs away from me all the time unless im the only person around then she will glady follow me around and sit by me.

MadZack - she's trying to play with you. She's playing the classic game keep away... and if you chase her you are rewarding that behavior. So here's something to do to keep your puppy close -

1. Always have really smelly, yummy treats with you in a plastic baggie in a pocket.
2. try to keep her on a leash whenever you can't keep her contained in a fenced in yard or in a single room.
3. if she does start to run away from you, then start clapping your hands and speaking in high excited tones while you run away from her
4. when the puppy chases after you, be sure to praise the crap out of her, and give her lots of yummy treats. do not scold her or even talk to her in a mean/angry voice. you want her to associate being around you as a great and wonderful thing!

keep doing that as much as possible until you can also teach her to come when called.
