This was on today's Pet Of the Day:
http://petoftheday.com/archive/2006/December/21.html People with piggies...NEVER EVER put your guinea pig in the snow! Its a good way to give them pnemonia, which often results in death! Guinea pigs originated from South America, they are not made for the snow! I just wonder how many people are going to put their piggies in the snow after seeing that!

Their ancestors were certainly built for the cold. The come from the Andes (Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia). Bolivia averages over 10,000 ft in elevation where the Cavy population is centered. It might not snow too often, but I'd imagine it happens.
It seems a bit unfortunate that modern ones are not quite so hardy. |

I was pretty shocked to see many people in england with piggies keep them outside all year round in hutches like bunnies do here.

AWW, my guinea pigs would HATE the cold! They get all mad at me if my room is under 60 degrees, lol... Such spoiled little piggies! Also, just thought i'd mention that one of my guinea pigs, Muffin, is getting a HUGE new home and igloo for x-mas, i hope he loves it! lmao
