Default Hereditary/Other Stomach Illness? Please Help.

I just got the terrible news that my puppy's siblings Tattoo and CC have both died- at different homes, haven't seen each other since they were weaned- of the same thing. The really bad part is the person who told me doesn't know what it is called. Gus (my pup) is 3/4 Corgi and 1/4 Border Collie. The illness was something to do with their stomachs- I don't know about vaccination records or anything besides this information. They were about 16 weeks old when this happened. My thoughts were Parvo and Giardia- but I am terrified it might be something serious and hereditary. Does anyone have any ideas of what else it could be?

I have worked with vets before and consider myself fairly knowledgeable about canine medicine, but I don't know of anything in either the Corgi or Border Collie that would be likely to affect two full siblings- I am trying to get more info and will be to the vet ASAP for blood work and any other tests she thinks might help- but the owners of the two puppies that died are very hard to get ahold of to find out exactly what it was called or if it was genetic, contagious, a result of late/not done vaccinations....

I was wondering, you say something to do with their stomachs? Do you know if the symptoms included diarrhea or vomiting? Keep trying to contact the owners of the other puppies. If you do get in touch with either of them ask how long before it was that they passed away after the symptoms presented.

Oh dear, I don't know either. I think you are doing the right thing to get pre-emptive vet checks done. I also agree to try hard to get hold of the other pups' owners; be very persistent, and don't worry about hassling people a bit when it's a life or death issue.

Also, if it's genetic it must be recessive, so it's unlikely to have a 100% outcome and your pup has a fair chance of being fine. If it's infectious, your vet's attention should prevent a problem.

Please post back here when you find out more. Good luck!

Um, could it be parvo? How old are the pups?

My first thought was Parvo, Buddy'sParents- but I don't know whether or not they were vaccinated. I got a contact number for someone who has a number for one of the owners and I'm going to try to get him on the phone tomorrow, as well as get Gus into the vet for any tests she wants to run.

Love That Collie, all I know is that they 'had a bad stomachache.' This is all the person who told me remembered- and this was fourth or fifth hand. The only thing that's for sure is they both died around 16 weeks and had both changed ownership. All the pups that stayed with the parents they originally went to are fine with no symptoms so far. I am leaning more towards stupid owners didn't give vaccinations (and I am SO angry about that, I helped deliver every pup in that litter) but am still frightened that something might be genetic.
