Cat Humping

We have a 5 year old male persian cat. He is neutered, but was not done until last year when we adopted him. The last week or so, he is beginning to mount things and hump them. His favorite target? My mothers leg. Understandebly, she is not pleased about this. She has been putting him off the bed every time he does this, and is going to use a squirt bottle on him tonight if he tries it again.
Why is he doing this? I know in dogs it is usually a dominance thing, is this true of cats also? Or is my cat terminally strange, something I have suspected for a long while. I never heard of another cat doing this.

my male neutered cat did that as well. The squirt bottle works wonders!

Just be careful with the water, get it in the ears and you got an infection to deal with. Make sure to spray at the butt. Preferably don't let the cat see you doing it, cats don't respond to dicipline like a dog would and may begin to see you as someone to fear because you are doing something to make them feel unpleasant.

I never sprayed my cat in the face or ears... but it was just shear luck I didn't. I didn't specifically aim anywhere. I guess I never really gave it much thought as to his ears getting wet.

I really don't know much about cats.. I've always been a dog person. I had no idea cat's don't respond to discipline like a dog.. I've never really disciplined my cat with the exception of a few squirts from a water bottle.

Puss ended up squirted 5 times last night. She nailed him in the side every time, and he jumped right off, only to slink back up there a little while later. Sneaky little devil.
