I understand what you are saying. If you used the space you have in your store for the shelters exclusively that would be even better. They could drop off the cats or dogs and pick them up at the end of the day. All inquires directed to the shelter so they can adopt out the pets.
Nothing saddens me more than going to a petstore and seeing puppies for sale.
While your intentions are meant well its kind of a oxymoron.

I already take in shelter cats and kittens. They adopt them right from my store. The money goes to the shelter. Right now with so many adult cats that they have they are giving them away free. Whats the difference if I take the puppies now or when they hit the shelter? As I see it and maybe I'm wrong, but isn't it better to see them with me so they never have to see the inside of the shelter were they might end up getting sick or worse yet destroyed because they don't have any room. I don't have the whole litter, I get the rejects that other places they sell to won't take because they don't look right or don't act right. I, not the breeder stand behind these puppies if they get sick or have congenital problems. I'm the one who takes them back not the breeder. Most of teh time they end up with the no kill shelter in our town. That's who they call first. I'm the second person if the no kill shelter is full. The regular shelter is always full. They never have any room for puppies because of all the bigger dogs they have come in. I guess I'm just trying to aleaviate the problem of them ending up at the shelter in the first place. And no my prices are not designer prices. The most they ever go for is $150-200 ea. which is less than what the no kill shelter charges and about what the regular shelter charges for puppies. They also get $50 back when they are spayed/neutered within 6 months.

I'm still sort of confused. I'm not trying to be rude I just don't understand-- again i'm asking why would a breeder let their dog go to a shelter because no one wanted it? Shouldn't the breeder care about the animals that they breed and not just cast them off when they have a problem? And you say you get the "rejects" that don't "look" or "act" right. Do you offer any sort of training or testing to make sure these animals should even be placed in homes right away? Don't you think that selling puppies that have behavioral issues might end up in them being dumped at the shelter when the owners get sick of dealing with it?

From what you're saying I just see you enabling this breeding to take place. A breeder that does not stand behind their puppies REGARDLESS and sells them to others for resale does not CARE about the animals. They are in it 100% for the money and I can almost guarantee that these animals have no health testing and screening before they are bred.

I don't think you're a bad person, and I believe you believe you're trying to help. But for the wellbeing of these animals I really hope that you rethink what you're doing which I believe is just perpetuating the cycle of overpopulation.

The difference between adopting out animals and selling other BYB's puppies is that you are making money off of the BYB puppies and selling dogs who have no health testing, and could possibly have a long list of heath problems further down the road. I will never ever support the selling of dogs and cats in petstores. Plus, now these breeders know that you will take the puppies off their hands... and if you didn't take the puppies, these breeders would have to (a.) sell the puppies themselves or (b.) probably stop breeding since they wouldn't have anyone to buy their puppies.

Again, it's not where the puppies are going that's the issue - it's that they are being bred at all! You are helping irresponsible backyard breeders sell their dogs when you should be stopping them from breeding at all!! THAT is the point, and I don't think you're getting it.
