Default Lilly is Tough

Lilly continues to do very well. Potty training has gone beyond belief well! Spending time with her has led me to believe that she has some terrier genetics. She can get excited over the tiniest thing. What is bothering me a little is that she HATES to be held. She is a pound puppie so she was probably not held very much. She really squirms when I try to get "cozy" with her. I read on another puppie forum that I should show my dominance by wrapping her in a towel so that she can not squirm out. This should be done until she understands that I am the Alpha dog. This idea is bothering me but I have considered the notion. Any ideas? LillyLover

I would avoid the towel "thing" all together. You don't want to use force with a puppy. I think the best thing to do is to realize that you don't have a cuddly dog. Trying to change your dog's personality will only cause future problems. Respect who she is as a dog and let her grow up.

I have a pug who recently turned a year and a half. As a young puppy, she was so active and never wanted to cuddle or be held. Now, it's all she can do to get in my lap. She loves to be held by me now. Puppies are busy little creatures. The world is new to them and they don't always like to just sit and cuddle, they want to explore and get into puppy mischief!

Give your pup some time and accept who she is...

Default Thank You for the Reminder

Yes, I'm sure that you are right. Just needed reminding. My Teddy was a big cuddle bug from the beginning. Guess I forgot that every dog has their own personality. She does want to cuddle when I first let her out of the crate in the morning, so maybe there is hope. I will be patient. LillyLover
