Help with Puppy training

Hi! I am new here, I have 2 Boxer pups at 5 months and a new Mini Weeinie at 4 months. I rescued him from a Pet Store (I know bad, but,.....just had too)
I had previously 2 that were older, one was 9....Had him since he was 7 weeks old and then a new one we have had for 3 years that was rescued from an extremely abusive home. They were both VERY hard to Potty train.

So, Harley will go outside and in his crate and in the house. We take him out every 30 minutes when we are home, before we leave and after we get home. He is not doing well, although the few times we have fallen asleep on the bed, he has held it all night, so if he can do that why not hold it while we are at work in his crate???

I am seriously thinking of sending him to Doggie Daycare and doing in house training.

It may be that you have a dog who resents being crated. It's entirely possible that he associates the crate with the cage he was in at the pet store, and, after all, he had to eliminate in the cage there, so that's what he knows.

I agree with Renee. Puppies that were raised in some sort of kennel or crate don't know the rule that you don't potty in your home!

You don't HAVE to crate train. And it sounds like it's not working for him.

I agree with the crate training and he isnt crated at night and for the most part will hold it all night, but during the day while at work, he will wont pee on the pads, but in the floor in the bathroom and in his crate, no matter how small it is. With T&N I had to make sure they had only enough room to turn and lie down and they never did it in their crate but Harley, well as I have said doesnt seem to care. I am boggled on what to do with him.

If you rescued him from a pet store, especially being a mini, he's probably from a puppy mill and has lived his entire life, up until now, in a cage - including urinating and defecating in a cage. That's what he's been acclimated to, and he's probably never going to stop it. He'll be much easier to house train if he's just kept in a puppy-proofed room during the day and taught to use a pad while you're gone. The easiest way to teach this particular dog to use a pad will probably be to initially put the pad in the crate for a few days, getting him used to going on it there, then close the crate door and put the pad in front of it, then remove the crate from the room altogether, leaving the pad in its place.
