Default Cavy Speuter?

Hey,
Just a quick question...
I know it is important for cats, dogs, and rabbits to be speutered, but what about Guinea Pigs?
From all the researching I have done, it seems like it is a big health risk and not worth it!
My friend and I have started a rescue for rabbits and really promote speutering. We have gotten a couple calls asking if we take cavy's. I don't mind taking them, and I know the basics about their care. I just don't know if speutering is necassary...? (we would seperate girls and boys of course!)
If it is, we most definately will get it done! We want to do what's right.

Nope, it's not a necessary surgery for guinea pigs. It's a nice precaution, but it can definitely be risky. And spaying is a more invasive surgery than neutering and is considered riskier...I'd just be worried about doing it.

Just make sure those males and females are very well seperated!

Thanks for the info.
I think I may neuter the males, but leave the females, as we will be adopting them out in pairs. We don't want lonely piggies!
Yup Squidburt, I am entering the world of wabbit wescue!
I do a lot of work with the rabbits at the local shelter, so I figured I have so much extra space, and lots of free time... Why not?
I will be housing up to six wabbits at a time, and just have a big pen full of piggies, lol.
We are a small rescue .

That's so great! I'm sure you'll find it so rewarding! No matter how few bunns you help you making a big difference to each individual.. and that's what really matters.. good luck to you!

Completely agree.

"Saving one animal won't change the whole world, but it will surely change the whole world for that one animal."

^ Is very true, and makes taking in even one animal off the streets completely worth it.

Best wishes Tucker!
