Last week I wrote on here about my cat who had a tumor, a very aggressive form of cancer.
her surgery was today, she came through the surgery great! The vet was able to get the entire tumor as well as surrounding tissue. They will now test the surrounding tissue and then be able to give us a better prognosis as far as whether or not they expect the cancer to return. She is now in an ecollar for two weeks which she HATES. First, i just wanted to update everyone who had given us good thoughts. Second, I was looking for some advice, she can't even lay down with the ecollar, has anyone else had to deal with this and what did you do? I have seperated her from the rest of the pets in a seperate room with water, food, and litter. Again thanks for all the good thoughts. Elissa |

Aw poor girl! I missed your post where the lump ended up being cancer. I'm so sorry to hear of the prognosis. My thoughts are with her in hopes they got all of it. As for the e-collar, I have no idea what to do, but wow, 2 weeks huh?! That will be a long few weeks, hope it goes by fast. Keep up updated on how she's doing and the upcoming results.

That's good news that they were able to take all of the tumor and clean out the surrounding area!
I don't know what to tell you on the e-collar . . . I'm not sure how effective those are with cats anyway, since their claws are the biggest threat to stitches.

I would think that the stress of the collar would be far more detrimental to her recovery than licking her wounds . . . which really isn't such a bad thing if you think about it. I never put one on any of my animals, except for Shiva - once - for about 20 minutes

Test Results are in...
the area surrounding the tumor was clean, which means there is a good chance the cancer may never come back. We just must keep an eye out for any tumors. She is feeling much better and getting back to herself. Thanks again for all the thoughts. Elissa |

Glad to hear her surgery went great and the prognosis is good!
As for the e-collar she will eventually adjust to it. Put her food & water in a deep bowl and fill them to the top and that will make it easier for her. Not to scare you but I did lose a cat many years ago after spaying because without an e-collar she was able to rip out all of her stitches during the night as well as her intenstines. If the vet recommends the e-collar I myself wouldn't take a chance.
