Default In for her Op!

Well here I am and Misha has gone in to get spayed and I'm sitting here counting down the hours till we can go and pick her up. Sorry for going on but still feels awful so need to let it out. Didn't realise we would be there holding her when she was put under and the tube put down her throat, but glad to be there to comfort her. Amazing, my husband, who people think is this hard Scot was in tears when I went outside, so worried about leaving her. We went back after the op and she was really groggy but they said it went okay....she is such a nervous girl, terrified of strangers-, so hope the night goes quickly for her...........anyway from experience how long do you guys think it will be before she starts to feel herself again?

Dogs are much like humans when dealing with anesthesia. They react in different ways and it takes different lengths of time for it to get completely out of their systems. Just feed her carefully - not too much at a time for a couple of days. Give her some yoghurt to help her body re-balance.

She may be moody for a few days and somewhat lethargic, so just bear with her, but don't let her get by with behaviours she wouldn't normally be allowed. They will take advantage, lol!

mary had little trouble after her operation..tho i almost didn't leave her i had such a bad experience with the clerk...when it is your dog it is the same as a family member and i didn't feel good about anything going wrong before the op. Tate vommited quite a bit..was sick for several days, but it eventually passed...Por little Sally ( i thought of her a great deal after i went through the same procedure) ran in the house and for no reason that i know of jumped into the bathtub and realized her mistake..her eyes deffinately said ouch! Hope all goes well and she recovers quickly! Three days and she should be back to normal...that is how long it took my dogs to recover their old life styles.

Thanks Renee! Will take it easy, and watch my husband - his guilt at leaving her overnight is running at 100% at the moment, which is sweet, but could lead to overfeeding and extra treats next few days if I'm not careful. I haven't got children and am not having going to have any, but am guessing that this is the closest I'm going to get to an extremely anxious parental night............

Martine, my children are my pets like you, and I worry about them too. Hope Misha got some rest. I know she'll be happy to see you when you pick her up.

It's so sweet - and it cracks me up - to hear Macho Charley explain to people that Bimmer and Shiva and Kharma are our children. Even funnier is the look on people's faces as they try not to laugh or look too surprised. You just don't hear many men say that; especially not tough old ex-fighters like Charley, lol!

Thanks for understanding guys! She is now back with us safe and sound, although very subdued. First sight of her after the op will stay with me a long while, she had her drip on wheels next to her and such a look of relief but also complete confusion... But she is eating and drinking ok in between long sleeps so it is all good. Good to know that tomorrow she will start to be back to normal. She also has a new fan club, my husband's aunt and uncle are over from Scotland, and it was instant love, they can't stop talking about her.....

I've never understood why the Airedale wasn't a more popular breed. Guess it's a good thing for the breed they're not, though. We had a neighbor in North Carolina who had one named Jeff. I just loved him. Such a clown, and so clever.
