Exclamation Maybe Ringworm

My bulldog has 3-4 small pencil eraser sized round to semi-round red spots on her stomach close to her rear. Two of the spots are on the inside of her thigh. Could this be ringworm? The spots are not scaley and are not rough feeling. What other possibilities could there be?

That is a possibility. I would take her in to a vet and get a skin scrape done for demodex/sarcoptic mange as well. Have them do a ringworm culture.

I just have to warn you about the ringworm- I just contracted it from my horse a few weeks ago and finally got rid of it. It is highly contagious to you, and any other animals in the house. It started off as one ring,I waited a few days to get Lamisil, and it spread over my stomach, and under my arms, and on the inside of my arms. It was awful, and I had to go get Diflucan for it. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly and under your finger nails after touching that until you know what it is. I would also isolate the dog as well, because the ringworm can spread through dead skin cells dropping off.

Not to try and scare you about it, just dont want anyone to have to deal with that. Blaah. It drove me nuts.

But, yeah, with any skin condition I would have her checked, it is hard to tell what is going on unless you have a scrape done or a culture.

Is she in heat? Demodex likes to flare up when dogs are in heat. it is a non contagious mange basically. Sarcoptes is the contagious version of it.

Good luck with her, hopefully it is just a few hot spots and you can easily take care of it.
