Default First heat, late bloomer?

Cajun is 15 months and according to previous owner, has not had a heat yet. Is that... normal. Lol I feel like she should have gotten that out of the way a long time ago.

This is completely uncharted territory for me. I'm just making sure she's not defective.

I don't know what's common in dobes, but I've known of plenty of border collies that have gone that long, some even who didn't come in until 2 years (and were fine health wise). Could she have had a silent heat perhaps?

Well if she can hold off that long that might be great, maybe I can have her spayed before it ever happens I'd like to wait until she's 18-24 months.

I"m just so used to "spay them RIGHT AT 6 MONTHS before they go into heat" and here I am like kkkkk she's had her uterus twice as long and nothing has happened

Kili's lines are routinely 18-30 months old for a first heat and only every 9-12 months thereafter. Kili is turning 20 months old tomorrow.

I think it varies by breed, lines, and individual dogs, kind of like in humans

I wouldn't worry about a dobe that hadn't had a heat yet at that age.

18-24 months isn't terribly uncommon

Yeah unless it's abnormal for her particular lines, you're not really in "this is weird" territory until she hits 2yo.

I think it was actually after Pepper was two that she had her first full blown, bleeding everywhere, super obvious heat. She had a heat cycle before, but the only indication I had was how Auggie was reacting to her.
Georgie's was somewhere between one and two.

If you don't have a male dog around, heat cycles are only a PITA because they have to run around wearing panties. (Or if you have a sport dog, they can't compete while in season.) That's about it So even if she does have one, it probably won't be that big of a deal! Just annoying haha.
