Just a quick hello. Tomorrow my family gets a new puppy. We have never had a dog before. I think I may need alot of help. The poor thing was found by a co-worker abandoned and starving out in the country. How could I pass up the poor little guy? We are all very excited.

Hi, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new puppy!
First thing you need to do is take it to the vet. They can tell you approximate age, possible breed and give it it's shots and deworming. Hopefully the puppy isn't TOO young (hope to hear between 7-10...probably not though). Second, go find a good quality food such as Canidae, Solid Gold, Eagle Pack, Innova...I've seen feed co-ops carry Canidae anymore, so you should be able to find something. Don't be alarmed at the initial price on the bags, it really is cheaper in the long run. You will feed less of it and the dog will be healthier so that's fewer vet bills. One other note about feeding...dogs that have been starved as a youngster often times have no idea that they have regular meals coming from now on and will gorge themselves. Even though you may feel bad only giving this dog 2 cups (or whatever is age/size appropriate) of food a day because it was so skinny, you won't be doing him any favors by letting him get fat. Feel free to come back with any other questions and PICTURES! Good luck!

Hi! Welcome to Chazhound. I agree with toaking the puppy to the vet too. That way you'd know the puppy is helthy and that it's not just what other people say. Congratulations on getting the puppy by the way.
