It can be -45 C here and schools remain open.
Busses get cancelled in inclement weather though, and that usually means those that do go to school get do do crafts and other fun stuff since the day is usually a write-off. I lived in walking distance of my elementary school, I loved going to school on snow days.
Within the last 2 years, schools have started closing here. But yah, (when I was a kid. Etc and so forth
) I never got time off school, save for the ice storm of '98. It was too cold out? We just didn't go outside for recess. Whimps nowadays.
