I seem to be having trouble with getting the camera to focus on the right thing. I think it's the result of bad lighting and a shaky hand lol

Use manual selective focus, it's so worth it. Don't let the camera decide what to focus on.

I might make it my online resolution this year to reply to more threads, especially picture threads. I know how discouraging it can be to not get replies, and who doesn't like people cooing over your dogs?

I don't really think the "daily photo thread" is impacting anything, since people generally only post one picture in there - usually something that they wouldn't create a thread about, anyway. Or that's how I use it anyway lol, just for the random cell phone picture.

The venting/good news/musing threads, yeah I think those take away activity, I think there are a lot of things that get put in those threads that in past, would have had their own thread made about it. But eh, I use them too

Totally this. I've gotten so much better at tracking movement and getting pictures after changing this. It's a pain if they switch directions but you get fast about adjusting and you can always set the other presets so that you have different points focused.

I also during anything that's action keep it on AI Servo AF so that it's continuously focusing.

As far as Facebook goes, I usually end up posting 1 single picture from a day's worth of pictures on Facebook, then I post the rest to Chaz, and then if I remember/want to later, I post those pictures on Facebook as well.

That could be why I typically get some replies/views on most of my picture threads? I don't actually do it on purpose - I like to edit my favorite picture from the set and then I get so excited about it I want to share on Facebook right away. Then once I edit the rest I'll upload on Flickr and post to the forums, but I don't upload to Facebook because I have to resize the original files (otherwise it takes forever to upload via FB). If I do take the effort to resize, I'll share with my FB friends as well.

I really like this!

I'm really sorry to hear this! I honestly look forward to each and every one of your photos/threads, and you were one of the people to inspire me to get a DSLR of my own. I figured if I got a fancy camera, I could get the stellar photos that you do, too. I'm still working on that - but I really do love your threads!

I think the reason I've stopped commenting is because over the last 3-4 years on Chaz and 6 years on other forums, there's only so many ways to say "holy gorgeous dogs, batman" and "wow, that photography!". Even if I still mean it every time

Definitely trying to comment on pictures posts when I can, though I don't look at them frequently.
Everyone was new at one point I think I started spamming the forum with pictures from the get go LOL

I enjoy your pictures and really like your dogs - greyhounds are my sister's dream breed so I even pull her over to share sometimes.

Regarding the part in bold -

ummmm NO. NOT TOO MANY. EVER EVER EVER. You are one of those rare people who take/share just the perfect amount of photos. You are perfect. Stay perfect, please.

Most of my threads get 0 replies, once in a while it'll be 1 or 2. However, the number of views my threads get is pretty consistent at about 100 to 200 views. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

If nobody was interested in my photos, I would not be getting so many views. So, I just sort of assume (perhaps egoistically) that people do enjoy seeing my photos, but don't always comment.

It can make me somewhat sad when a picture I'm particularly proud of goes unnoticed on both FaceBook and here, but the pictures were for me to begin with. I try to make my photos almost surreal in beauty, because I always look back on my old photos and think "wow, these pictures are boring. But it reminded me of the nostalgic memories I have about it, which were beautiful!"

I want to create photography where I look at them and go, "Wow this is a great memory that's as beautiful as I remember!"

So I never really mind that much when things go missed. I was happy when I was out taking the picture, I was happy when I spent that time with my dog, I was happy when I did my photography, I was happy when I find a picture and improve it in post processing, and I'm happy when I get a good result. I share it, and if someone likes it, that makes me happy. If nobody notices, that didn't change everything up to this point.
