Default Age Gaps

What kind of age gap do you prefer to have between your dogs?

Mimi will be 4 the end of June, Ezra turns 2 in 4 days. Probably a little closer that I'd want ideally, especially when they get older, but I had Mimi for 6 months and knew I wanted a second. Ezra just fit in. Puppy #3 will more than likely come before Mimi turns 6. I don't think I have a preferred age range, and thankfully, I have a breed that does very well in groups.

Probably depends on how many dogs I have :P I like to have an even gap in age.

Kobe is a bit over 8 years old, and will be nearly 9 when the puppy arrives. If I had two dogs, that would be about where I want it.

If I had 3, I'd want a 4 year gap. And so on.

The age gaps are nice, but it's also important to me that I don't feel like I have too many dogs to do the stuff I enjoy with (For example, hiking is exponentially harder the more dogs you have).

But at the same time I want enough dogs that I feel like I can always do stuff with at least one of them. So there's no strict rule, really, but I am going to try to keep them more spaced out in age in the future.

2-3 years. Gambit is 3.5 (just celebrated his gotcha day) and Shaman is almost 8 months. There will be no more dogs until Gambit passes or I write the next Harry Potter series and am filthy rich.

Lady Chesh is also 3.5 but she doesn't countvas she is both feline and useless

*snort*

I have only ever had 1 dog, but I would love to add another ES when Hudson is 4ish.

I don't know what my ideal would be, and if/when I get another dog the age difference probably won't be a factor. Wesley being three years older than Feist is nice in theory, as he's supposed to be older and wiser and a mature dog. But he's a crazy boy standard poodle, so I'd say they're about the same maturity level.

I like having 5 or so years between dogs. Our papillons are all spaced about 1 year apart and I don't want to do that again. I don't like having multiple seniors at the same time. Multiple youngsters is fun but the senior years can be very very rough.

I kind of like my age gaps right now. Jasper is 5, Yarrow is 1 (almost 2) and Onyx will be 1 in a few months. Yarrow and Onyx are in theory closer in age than I'd like, but it has worked out just fine. They are total opposites in all ways temperamentally so I don't really find that they join together in puppy naughtiness, and they love to play which is nice. Jasper is an old soul, always has been, so he seems like my old man even though he isn't really that old.

I think my max is 3 dogs, at least for now, so the age gap between Onyx and my next dog will probably be substantial.

Not the age gaps I have. LOL Peewee is 15, Ivan is 8(9 in may) and Phoebe is 10 weeks. I would prefer to have about a 3 or 4 year age gap in between dogs.

Uh, none? I prefer one dog at a time.

If I'm going to have more than one though, I love the age gap I have, which is 7 years. I think 6-8 year age gap is ideal. Then, in theory, the older dog is starting to slow down but isn't too old and creaky to handle a new dog in the house, and should also be as trained as they are going to get. In theory This way they also aren't getting old at the same time, for both monetary and mental reasons. Losing 2 dogs so close together would suck, and they also seem to get significantly more expensive as they get older. So yeah, ideally no overlap, or 6-8 years.
