That is weird. I kind of feel like I should email that ped and let her know. And I'm now really really glad that I went with my instincts and didn't start solids until now.

I heard that the 4 month recommendation was a very brief and poorly supported recommendation and they went from the 4-6 recommendation to 6 months.

We will be doing BLW so we won't start until 6 months at least. I'm in no hurry to start solids. Why make extra work for myself? Food before one is just for fun.

I also want to do blw, but we might go straight to veggie purées. I'll be skipping the rice cereal, hopefully.

Lillian is rolling over like a pro. And attempting to crawl. She balanced for a few seconds on all fours the other day, but mostly she's just plowing herself across the floor (slowly) with her legs while her arms frustrate her.

She's only 3.5 months. I'm in BIG trouble

How many of you have your children in daycare and how did you choose the facility? I recently had to switch Ryland's daycare providers because I got a new job and the hours were radically different and didn't match the daycare he was already in. I had literally 3 days to get my child care assistance switched over to the new daycare, and his enrollment papers filled out. I had already toured and did an intake interview with one (the first one on the child care assistance providers list that matched my hours) so he is going there. But, after looking online, they have AWFUL reviews. There's about 10-12 reviews, and only one is nice that is recent. There's a couple other nice ones, but they're old and from 2008 or so. So I'm kind of freaking out. I will pull him out if I have to... I didn't necessarily get a bad vibe from the place until the director called me a "customer", which is what I am technically, but that certainly makes a parent feel like a statistic rather than someone who has a child you will love and care for all day. Their rooms also feel a little... Cold? Not temperature wise, just LOVE wise. I don't know, maybe I'm freaking out for no reason and it's all in my head...

Also, how the hell do you get your mother to seriously just shut up trying to tell you what to do with your kid? Mine lives 5 hours away, and still manages to drive me bonkers. "Give that baby boy some rice in his bottle, he's hungry." "No mom, that can choke them and lead to allergies." "Barbara that's stupid, I did it with you and you're fine, stop believing everything you read on the internet." She is like that with absolutely everything. And this past week he had bronchitis, and she blamed me for not taking him into the doctor soon enough. Like, what? I took him in as soon as he had symptoms. And then when we gave him breathing treatments, she was all "Make sure you give them to him Barbara, he'll get more sick if you don't." Like, I KNOW. He's MY SON. I care about him too and do what's best for him, too. Why does she think she's the only one who cares or gives a crap?

UGH.

As far as feeding babies before 6 months, here's some anecdotal evidence:

At my daycare, we don't feed them baby food until 6 months. We had a mom insist we feed her son (4 months) some green beans. We assumed she had done it at home, but I think she just wanted to test the reaction out on us. And boy, was there a reaction. The poor baby threw up almost immediately after and threw up for the rest of the day until my director made his mom come and get him. So... Yeah. 6 months should be the recommendation, for sure.

Well, sometimes day cares can seem a bit cold because they have to be kept as clean and sterile as possible. But if you're getting a bad feeling about the place, I'd look elsewhere.

So Lillian likes to pull herself into a sitting position holding onto my hands. Today, she pulled herself into sitting, and then continued and pulled herself into a standing position! I feel like as soon as she starts sitting without support, she'll be pulling herself up on her crib and stuff.

When do I get any of the good side effects of pregnancy? Aren't my nails supposed to be stronger and my hair growing thicker and healthier looking?

My nails are just as peel-y and brittle as ever (don't even make it to the tips of my fingers before cracking and ripping off), and my hair is shedding 10x worse than ever. I get a full hair brush every time I brush my hair, and the kids/teachers at school are commenting on how much I'm shedding. I've stopped wearing black entirely because it's so embarrassing. I am going to have to start putting my hair in a ponytail every day (not exactly professional, but kind of a necessity) just to prevent my clothes from being covered in blonde hair

Googled it and said there's no real normal during pregnancy...some get great hair, some lose it all. GAH. Guess this is my pay back for not having any morning sickness!

Realize that a ticked off customer is 150% more likely to write a review than a satisfied one. Look at apartment ratings online. It is nearly impossible to find a place with a higher score than 75/100 around here. We loved our first apartment and had a great experience with the staff, but the reviews online made it look like a roach infested place run by ex cons or something.

Trust your instincts. I wouldn't pay attention to any reviews over a year old, as the staff and policies may very well have changed since then anyway.

I was able to enjoy pregnancy from about February to May. (I was due June 9th, had her the 16th). So....from probably like 26 weeks to like 38 weeks.

Actually, I had horrendous heartburn for the last few weeks. I enjoyed it if I only ate bananas and instant breakfast that day.
