Just saw your edit. I had that trouble with both Didgie and Traveler, they weren't used to jumping on me when I was sitting like that. Honestly, I would just keep pushing and see if you can break through that.

Make a huge deal for coming in closer, any paws on you. Just break it down even more.

I just really like this method because I think it makes them more comfortable being caught and teaches both you and them how to catch and be caught safely
