We had a fantastic judge our last USDAA trial I went to and worked at. I cannot remember her name (and I'm not sure how to look it up?) but she had a tricolored longhaired whippet if that helps any. She was awesome and supportive and very helpful at relaying the information to all the new competitors.

The one nice thing about oklahoma is this trial I'm entering is only the third USDAA trial in the state. This one is bigger than our last two (which I've worked at) so will have all the TX USDAA folks but most the okies are brand new to USDAA agility.

In AAC training is allowed in the ring, no motivators on you but you can pick and chose what you want to do or repeat obstacles. As soon as the judge sees this or you say (which I have done) that your training, the judge makes a T hand cue to the scribe and you don't get a score. They also will tell you in the briefing what the time limit is for training which is usually about 5 seconds less than the SCT (standard course time).

It is also very common for a person to do their opening and not attempt to the distance skill of the main gamble. But run with their dog over the line and either do some of the obstacles or the complete gamble, thanking the judge and ring crew as they go

I know one judge that instructs the gate keeper to call out the handler and dog's names to the scribe, so she can greet the nervous newbies with their name, smile at them and wish them luck. If I have a student looking for their first trial, I will search to see where that judge is listed at a trial and strongly recommend the student trial under this judge for the first time.

First trials should be about making the handler and the dog as comfortable as possible.

Hey Beanie......those folks sitting on the side lines hoping that someone fails???? They are only successful when they can get into your head and esp so when they can effect your decisions and how you do. Tell yourself to forget them, they are not worth it and if they give an opinion??? Tell them you don't recall asking for nor paying for their opinions etc.

Payton held his 2o2o when I ran past him on the plank tonight. May not sound like much but tough for my little guy who loves to chase, especially because I encouraged him to play so many chasing games (and we still love to play chasing games!)
Still need more work on driving to the 2o2o... and getting it right the first time... baby steps...

That's awesome! I feel you on the chasing games. I know that's going to be an issue with Jari since that type of stuff is the way I help train recalls. Took Kimma a bit to get the hang of it, too for the same reason. He will get there

Decided I'm pulling Payton from both his agility trials.
