If I am ever lucky enough to.have the opportunity to have someone give me a diamond, I would not mind if it was lab grown or natural. In fact, if the lab grown ones are cheaper, I think that would be better. I would not want my boyfriend (or family) to have to break the bank just to get me a diamond ring or earrings or necklace. I would be happy with other, cheaper, stones too. It's the thought that counts. The only time I would be upset is if I was told it was a diamond and it was cubic zirconia or something.

Isn't that the truth. They should be cheap, the only reason they are not is because of very strict market control.

I personally hate diamonds,I think they are tacky, I wanted alexandrite for my engagement ring, but hubby's mother gave me her first set, which is diamonds and yellow gold, but I love it for the sentimental value of it. Even if he bought me a new set I wouldn't wear them in place of the set I put on on my wedding day.

That said I would only accept a lab diamond or a diamond from a known location, like polar bear diamonds.

To elaborate: it isn't so much that it is a diamond - it is quality. I honestly don't care if there are no diamonds, I just want a quality ring that looks good and is going to last. I think of "fake" diamonds being in cheap(er), lesser quality rings...and I don't want that. Quality all the way!

It would not bother me, but I do think it is something that should be discussed beforehand. I think the assumption is that it is a "traditional" diamond, unless otherwise agreed upon.

My engagement ring is a little chip of a thing that my husband liquidated his savings to buy (we were seniors in college--a thousand dollars was a ton of money at the time!!!) I would have been totally fine with it being lab created.

I have zero interest in a "real diamond" and the human rights issues that go along with it most of the time (or the idea of going along with the idea that diamonds are in ANY way "rare" ...)
I also have no interest in a lab created diamond LOL count me out of the whole tradition all together really.

No issue with the tradition itself and have friends/was once a girl who wanted the diamond and love what it symbolized (still do!) but recently I just.. didn't want the rock anymore.

I'd like a band or something that we could both have but other than that.. nope.

Personally I love diamonds. I would be highly insulted if my husband bought me a fake diamond unless he told me ahead of time he couldn't afford it, then I would tell him not to bother. For some reason I dislike cheap jewelry. I would carry a cheap purse because I could care less about purses, but wouldn't wear cheap jewelry. Jewelry is my thing.
