I agree with sparks, Fran... I think you need to be really upfront with your mom. I know it's hard because your family is really close, but you need to find a way to tell her to back off, that your life is YOUR life, and not put up with it anymore. Does your mom know the details of your history as far as your weight and stuff goes? Because if not you need to point out that comments like hers are hurtful to ANYBODY but given your history I would say they are flat out unacceptable.

How much/far can you run right now? And how much/far does Em run right now?

On actual ground, not a treadmill? About a mile. Em can go for days and days and days, LOL. I may not be in the best of shape, but I make **** sure that dog is.

At the 1.5 mile mark there's a break for water and whatnot, so we can rest a bit there and then carry on.

So far off the wagon! I really need to get back into gear. Pretty sure I've gained back everything I lost, but I'm too scared to step on the scale and find out. This is the worst part of it, when I think about how much money I spent on healthy food and how much time I spent working out, just waster. Grrboohiss.

I would look at the Couch to 5K program, pick a week, and start there. Try week 5:
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

If you can do week five successfully and continue on with the rest, you'll be fine.
Otherwise, yes, as Tanya said, make good use of run/walk. There are quite popular and successful runners who ONLY run/walk (Jeff Galloway is the most famous one) - there is never a point where they just run and run and never take a walk break. You can either make a plan that includes it: run until you hit the first mile marker, then walk until you're ready to run again, run until the second mile marker, then walk until you're ready to run again; you could keep the pattern in C25K where you run five minutes, walk three (or whatever numbers you'd like); or just run until you feel like walking and walk until you feel like running.

As far as Em goes, there's a big difference between running around playing for hours on end, and structured running for miles, especially if you're going to be on pavement which the site doesn't say anything about the route but I'm sort of assuming it is. She is the one I'm concerned about more than you really. If you can, I would take her on your first day of trying C25K. Plan a loop in your neighbourhood so if she is struggling and tired you can stop and take her back home easily. Then see how she is doing the next day.

But if you're planning on a run/walk method you can probably be a little less worried about her. Straight up expecting her to run on pavement for three miles even with a short break at the halfway point is a lot if she's never done structured running before!

I have lost 40 pounds. I never would have thought I had/ could lose that much.

6 pounds below my lowest adult weight ever, 5-6 years ago.. but I got there by not eating enough. I'm loving low carb.

Cannot wait for warmer weather so I can do more for myself and with the pups. I am sick of winter..

Thank you for the link!

She is used to structured running, both on pavement and off. No worries on her end.

This week has been nutty with the musical and everything else, but I keep finding the time to work out (fortunately). Unfortunately, the last couple of days I haven't been eating enough (like 1300 calories a day) - mostly because I've been skipping lunch or dinner because we're at the school. Tomorrow should be back on track hopefully.

Of course, I think I cemented my place in the high school. I was already asked if I was going to help with next year's musical, even though my daughter is graduating.
