A little bit girly-girl. Very bright. Loves horses.
Any suggestions?

Maybe the Marguerite Henry books? King of the Wind, Misty, Five O'clock Charlie, Album of Horses...
I think I started reading the Black Stallion books around that age, too.

Are the saddle club books still available?

Misty books, Black Stallion books, and depending on her reading level either Pony Pals, Saddle Club, or Thoroughbred books. I loved them all and read them all at that age, but the Thoroughbred books can be kind of hefty if she isn't REALLY into reading.

Definitely the Marguerite Henry books. Brighty's Canyon is a really good one too, same author and about a burro.
The Little House on the Prairie series is really good and at the right age bracket for her. I really enjoyed Farmer Boy, which Ingalls-Wilder wrote about her husband's childhood. Definitely The Black Stallion. There's a whole series of them too. I've heard really good things about Blind Beauty as well. |

i second everything listed so far. black beauty and its lesser-known sequel, beautys family, also animorphs and if shes very smart theres no reason she cant read adult books as well, fiction or fantasy or whatnot. i read Dune for the first time when i was her age

The Wild At Heart series by Laurie Halse Anderson
American Girl books The Babysitter's Club Series Nancy Drew books Sable by Karen Hesse Harry Potter series At that age I started reading a lot of classics in young-adult versions...like Jules Verne, Jack London, Dickens, Mark Twain, etc. I had a set my mom bought at KB Toys, but I believe there are other versions.

I used to love the heartland series, but I may have been closer to 10 or 12 at that point - I don't remember... it's about a girl that runs (or works at?) a farm that heals hurt horses.

I was gonna say heartland, too. I read them around 8, but I was a good reader early on and I was quite the bookworm. I loved All of the black stallion books, too
