That is totally not true. That's like the low carb myth of "oh once you cut out bread you don't even miss it!" LIE. LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE. ALL THE TIME.
I mean, don't get me wrong. I love fruit. Apples are amazing. Mangos, so so good, and apricots, ohhhh apricots we have such a love affair lately.
But I also still love cake. And dream about cake. A lot.
Caaaaaake.
I would like a big slice of cake right. now.

And no, I don't eat salad. I've never liked salad. And nope, if I don't like lettuce or tomato or onion (I DO like onion but only finely chopped; texture thing again), putting it on top of a chicken patty and sandwiching it between two bread buns isn't going to make me like it.
Romaine is okay - I could probably eat a meat "sammich" wrapped in a romaine leaf though my preference would be to just cut the romaine and go straight for meat all rolled up on itself. But iceberg tastes... worse than grass. When I still ate bread, if I got a sandwich from Jimmy John's I always ordered the slim because it comes without lettuce and tomato (and mayo.) If the sandwich maker had lettuce on their gloves from making other sandwiches and some of the lettuce got on my sandwich, even after I peeled the lettuce off, I could still taste it on the bread... ugh.
I don't get it because iceberg seems to be nobody's favourite lettuce and yet just about every salad ever is based on iceberg.

Being gluten-free and not liking salad sucks. When you go out somewhere it pretty severely limits what you can eat. I went to a church party and they ordered pizza, had tables full of cookies and mini cupcakes and brownies, aaaaand salad. Can't eat the pizza, can't eat the sweets, don't want the salad. So I was the weirdo who ate nothing and downed two pitchers of water by myself. Meh.

I dunno, cutting sugar for me made a huge difference. It might be more to do with the richness and sugar than the taste, though. I'd still eat a bite of cake but a big slice seems repulsive. And I hated broccoli my whole life, but after cutting lots of carbs and unhealthy stuff, I'll eat tons of broccoli except raw. I don't even eat salad dressing except vinegar anymore because it all tastes like I poured sugar on my salad.

I always assumed iceberg lettuce was used so much because its cheap.

I don't eat salad or any sandwich with any kind if veggie on it. When I get grilled cheese I even ask for no garnish veggies because the juice seeps into the bread and I taste it.

Like Kilter said it really is mind over matter. You're really not going to die if you force vegetables down. I taught myself to like vegetables and cottage cheese by making them taste like things I do like, and removed that shortly after. Here I am, eating lunch: salad wrap with turkey, hummus, red pepper, broccoli and sprouts. Apple on the side. Vegetables are actually pretty delicious, and I notice when I go a day without eating healthy I feel like utter crap.

I would also try eating vegetables first and then move onto the rest of the meal. That's what I did when I wasn't a big fan of veggies. I'd always try to eat as much salad as I could first before moving onto the rest of the meal. If you really hate salad even with nuts, dressing, cheeses, etc. in it, then do something like a greek salad, or munch on carrot sticks and pepper slices as an appetizer.

If you're eating grilled cheese and a soup with veggies, add more veggies to the soup, a different variety, and eat more of that and just half a grilled cheese.

Mash chicken salad with an avocado and add shredded/finely chopped carrot, and gradually add more.

Everyone has a different sensitivity of their taste buds, and while some can force down vegetables they don't like, some people will literally gag or vomit if they try.

If you like tomato...red peppers have a similar taste...so maybe instead of grilled american cheese and tomato, try mozzarella with grilled/roasted red peppers.
