Default Camera Brands

So, between my new P&S not working out for me and all the camera talk, I figured this was one that we haven't gone through yet! We've gone over what you use, what lens you use, how you use it, so let's go back to brand.

Is the brand just a name? Or are certain brands better and worse than others? Do you really think some cameras are priced on quality alone (Nikon, Canon) or are there real gems out there for a fraction of the price (Panasonic, FujiFilm)? So on and so forth. Why did you choose the brand you did, what are your thoughts on it, and what has been your experience with other brands?

My grandparents were professional photographers, my dad wanted me to follow in their footsteps. He gave me his Canon film SLR and when it came time for digital I went with what I knew.

Canon as a rule tends to have a bit less noise at night on long exposures but that's it. Nikon is far more user friendly from what I understand and has a few more bells and whistles that have made me jealous a time or two over the years.

In the end Canon and Nikon are equal, ime, it just depends on which one has sexier commercials.

The other options out there don't click on my radar normally. I have a few sony P&S which I enjoy for what they are.

I started with Canon and find Nikon more user friendly. They are both great, and all I know besides my point and shoot. Basically what Adrianne said.

I have the Canon Rebel XSi. As a beginner camera I love it. I'll probably upgrade in the next year or so (once I can justify by knowing what I'm doing or at least being able to spout technical terms lol) but I don't know if I'll go Nikon or Canon. Those are pretty much the only two brands I hear mentioned and the only ones with DSLR cameras in my budget.

I use Canon stuff for no other reason that I just seem to always be drawn to them. My first point and shoot was a Canon, my first DSLR was a Canon, my second DSLR is a Canon, my first Video camera is a Canon.

I don't go out looking for Canon so much as I just keep falling into them so I figure that must mean I like them.

I started with a Sony dslr and then moved to a Nikon.

I adored my sony, it was a fantastic camera and actually had the ability to autofocus quicker than my Nikon. However, it lacked in availability in accessories including lenses and when it comes down to the advantages of dslrs, lenses are everything.

The camera Skid broke was a Nikon D70...... Go ahead and laugh but I got tons of awesome dog shots with my dinosaur. I played with a Canon EOS 60D and actually liked it more than the newer Nikons. I am leaning towards Canon this time but haven't really made a decision. Anything I get will beat 6.1 MP and a busted body!

The other contender while I HAD Nikkoe lenses was the D7000 but since someone stol my 75-300 and Skid broke the 18-135 I need new. I just read this review and it was exactly what I came away with in the color aspect! I think I am headed for a 60 D.......
