Not that this helps any, but if you ever get the chance try duck eggs. We used to have Khaki Campbells and their eggs were amazing. They have a more intense flavor than chicken eggs and I would not recommend you hard boil them.

If you have a Whole Foods, they should have local organic eggs instead of just general organic eggs, which might be a bit fresher (I don't know for sure).

Look around your area for any road side stands. Or put a post up on craigslist looking for farm fresh eggs. If you are putting them in something like a cake or what not, I haven't noticed a difference. Mostly because you are not really tasting the egg. If its something you would taste the egg in it, anything bought from a store you are going to notice it.
I soooooooooooooooooo badly want my own chickens, hubby says no though .

Our veggie markets usually have a fridge with farm eggs in them. You can also check craigslist or go for a drive through a rural area and look for signs. That's how you get them around here, YMMV.

Try going to a local feed store or like a TSC (Tractor Supply Company) and there will usually be a board up where people post things like "truck for sale" or "horse for sale" but I bet you could find someone who has fresh eggs for sale. A family friend of ours recently started keeping chickens for eggs and I think it's so cool. Something I've always wanted to do, and my dad actually almost got some from the guy but with Violet it would never work.

When I can't get to the farmers' market, I've found the ones at Whole Foods are a pretty close second. I assume they'll be locally sourced there, because ours are from Hillsborough (about an hour away).

Thanks everyone! There is ONE ad on Craigslist for fresh eggs, and I'll check Whole Foods. Also, we had TWO eggs today, so maybe they're starting to come out of it

So, I found organic cage-free grain-fed eggs at Dillon's for 25 cents a dozen. At that price, I'll give them a try! I got four dozen...if I don't like them, I'm sure others in the house will eat them.
