So I called my mom a couple hours ago and the conversation went as follows:
"Hey mom." "Hi Christina, how are you?" "I'm fine thanks, how are you?" "Well... I'm ok... I've been at the hospital all day with your brother..." "What!? Is he ok!?" "Well... He broke his hip..." "How the hell did he brake his hip!?" "He was in a car accident..." "Oh my god! Is he going to be ok!?" "He may need surgery, but he'll be ok." Am I crazy or was that one of the worst ways for her to tell me that? She was being so cryptic about it. And why in the hell did no one call me when my brother got into a car accident!? He got into the accident at 1 PM!!! I am just hearing about it at 6! WTH?? Shouldn't I have been called? Now I'm feeling all flustered and upset. I talked to my brother and he wasn't wearing his seatbelt, because he's a moron. He smashed his head into the windshield so bad that he found a piece of glass in his forehead when he was at the hospital. He couldn't move his leg at first when his friend came around to the passenger seat to help him out. THEY HAD TO POP HIS LEG BACK INTO THE SOCKET so that he could walk on it! Walking on it probably made it worse, though, because now he may need surgery. He's on crutches until they see the specialist on Monday. An ambulance came, but he refused to ride in it because he didn't want my parents to have to pay for the ambulance. So he waited for my mom to get there and he had to sign all sorts of releases so she could take him to the hospital. All of this with a broken hip, a concussion and no pain meds. He was supposed to get his wisdom teeth taken out this coming thursday, but the doctor said that he can't be put under because literally all that is holding his hip together right now is the muscles. And if he was put under his hip would basically fall apart and he would need emergency surgery. So yeah. He really f***ed up his hip. His friend, who was driving, was uninjured because of the seatbelt. The car is totaled. But neither boy is totaled, so I'm happy about that. I just feel so upset and flustered, though! I swear this kid is going to give me a heart attack! |

It's worse than they thought. He has been admitted to the hospital and will have surgery on Wednesday. The doctors were shocked that the ER let him go home.

Ugh, I'm sorry ((((hugs))))
As far as your parents not telling you right away, try not to take it personally. It's a shock to get news like that, and "logic" goes out the window. They also could have wanted to let you know after they knew what was going on -- I mean, they did end up calling.

I have been tasked with calling everyone else, though. I had to call my dad (my parents are divorced), aunts, uncles and grandmother yesterday. I think I've told the story more times than I can count. |

I hope he recovers quickly!
I understand your mom's actions, but it's really upsetting when a family member is hurt or sick and no one tells you. My dad went to the ER thinking he might be having a heart attack (false alarm) but no one told me he was there til the next day, and I was really unhappy about it

Just talked to my brother for 45 minutes and it sounds like it's even worse than my mom was letting on.
There is a 75% chance the bone will "over heal" and he will lose some range of motion, he has absolutely NO cartilage in his hip and he will definitely have arthritis at an early age. There is also a 1 in 100 chance that his (something with an "S") nerve will be damaged and he will loose some feeling in his left foot. He's only 19.

Sciatica nerve.
I was in a bad dirt bike accident at 15, and permanently injured my shoulder. My best friend also had a permanent injury (foot crushed in a balcony collapse during prom ) at 17. She'll never be able to run. It sucks, but you have to look at how many advances happen everyday in medicine, there's always hope for something like that to be even more fixable in the near future. And just count your blessings it wasn't worse. I hope he heals as fully as possible and has an smooth time coping with any limitations.

He's having surgery at 1 (in 15 or so minutes). It will be a 4 hour long procedure. I am beyond worried, but he seems to be taking it well. He said, "Don't worry, big sis, I'm not going to feel a thing, I'll be passed out." Well, I'm going to worry any way, because it's my job.
