Default So excited!

My mom thought it would be a wonderful idea to do a dog sport with Cali, so we're going to be calling the woman who does local training classes about getting Cali involved. She does everything from rally to nosework to flyball! I have no clue what sort of things I want to do just yet, but I'm leaning towards flyball and maybe even nosework in the summer.

Any suggestions on what to try out? Or what types of sports you've noticed smaller breeds excel at? Cali is around 4.8/4.9 pounds of pure energy so preferably one that burns a bit of energy.

What are your goals? Flyball is a team sport which requires a certain amount of committment to a team (if you want to compete). Rally, agility and nosework are a lot more open

Flyball is a lifestyle in many regions and on many teams. Your teammates rely on you and you rely on them to pitch in, be on time, and hold each other accountable by time, money, and effort.

That said it can create amazing familial bonds.

If you're not up for that type of commitment (I know it doesn't suit us anymore) then I suggest looking into agility and or any other sports that intrigue you.

I'm definitely up for commitment. I have lots of time to spare since, unfortunately, I no longer have a need to be at the barn six days a week. I'm still sifting through ideas but right now agility, nosewprk and flyball are my top choices.

I do think I'd like to get more competitive at one point, but that would depend on how much Cali enjoys it.

What part of Canada are you in? Maybe we'll see you at a trial sometime

There are a lot of Paps in Agility and they do really well. In our Advanced Agility class, one person has three of them that she trials with.

I live in New Brunswick, although my aunt does agility with her adopted ACD in Ontario.

I think I might try out agility although we'll have to work on Cali's attention span.. she's picked up on my limited focus ability, it seems. :P
