Summer's been chewing her paws and she's getting red fur on them. I'm assuming it's an allergy issue or something of the sort. I don't know for sure but I did recently pick up a bag of food that we've never tried before. I rotate their food constantly and just pull whatever grain free kibble for them. They also get raw and occasionally canned. We've never had a problem with either and they've been on all proteins and many brands. Innova, TOTW, Blue Buffalo, THK, Stella and Chewy's, etc. Buffalo, duck, chicken, bison, venison, turkey, fish, etc.
It's Wellness core small breed. I've actually never tried Wellness before with them. Is there any unusual ingredients in this that might be the problem? Ingredients: Deboned Turkey, Turkey Meal, Chicken Meal, Potatoes, Peas, Dried Ground Potatoes, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Tomato Pomace, Natural Chicken Flavor, Ground Flaxseed, Salmon Oil, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Vitamins [Vitamin E Supplement, Beta-Carotene, Niacin, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Biotin, Folic Acid], Minerals [Zinc Proteinate, Zinc Sulfate, Iron Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate], Choline Chloride, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Kale, Broccoli, Spinach, Parsley, Apples, Blueberries, Mixed Tocopherols added to preserve freshness, Spearmint, Chicory Root Extract, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Chondroitin Sulfate, Taurine, Dried Lactobacillus plantarum Fermentation Product, Dried Enterococcus faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus casei Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus Fermentation Product, Rosemary Extract. This is a naturally preserved product.

We're having a licking and a little chewing also. Earthborn Holistic grain free doesn't help. TOTW helps but the worst part is they want to eat their poop on it so stopped feeding and also because of all the diamond recalls.
Smkie on here feeds Wellness Core grain free to Neccy which helped clear up all her allergies. I'm thinking about trying it next. I think it might be worth trying it. Let me know if you try it and what the results are. |

For me, if one of the dogs (read: Kim) starts licking/chewing a herself, my first line of defense is checking for dry skin (especially this time of year) and if that's not it, a bath with gentle diluted shampoo to make sure she didn't pick anything up, especially if we've been walking through the neighborhood or parks where I don't really know what's been sprayed on the grass.

Also still having problems here with Jinjo, he even went from basic destructive chewing the other morning, to crossing the line into self mutilation, one of his back feet he had chewed till it was covered in blood! He's eating 100% home-made right now, but I think I've figured out the problem, finally! Poor circulation, yep, his feet are cold, possibly hurting numb as well, so he's chewing them for relief. I came to this conclusion after going through EVERY last possible way to rid him of allergies and nothing was working, took some notes and he chews his feet: late at night, throughout the night, in the morning, and several minutes after coming in from outside with colder days being worse.
It's literally the last hope I have right now as an idea of what's causing this problem with him and finding a way to fix it. Unfortunately I've had some problems with my idea of getting him socks, Petsmart only sells two sizes, too small for his feet, and the ones I bought that only stay on his front feet (if he doesn't pull them off), I did just think though that his winter boots are the opposite, ugly as the combo's going to look I might mix and match them. Ranting, sorry, anyway, just another idea for those of you who can't seem to find an allergy cause.

Have you used any new household cleaners or detergent? That could also cause allergic reactions.
Hope she feels better.

I don't see anything specific, but maybe it could possibly be tomato pomace and flaxseed? I think I'm coming to the conclusion that Jackson may have slight issues with those ingredients ... because Fromm has them, and causes Jackson terrible eye boogers, and he doesn't get them that bad on any other food. Those are the only 2 main ingredients I've found that are in Fromm and not in other foods we've fed in the past.

I will be honest with you. The one food that agrees with all of them is TOTW pacific stream. The problem is 2 of mine love the taste of their poop when they eat it! yuck! This is why I went off it. I'm thinking it has something to do with all the pea, pea protein they are putting in the grain free food. I'm thinking it's the peas. TOTW does not have peas. You get fed up with the whole food thing when you buy expensive quality food and still have problems.
My neighbor down the block feeds Dog Chow and her oldest is 14 years old (pit/boxer mix) and all the rest are well on it. My other neighbors feed Pedigree with no problems either. They are dealing with allergies, etc...... This just doesn't make sense to me. |
