Everyone that has posted links, supportive information, messages of encouragement, positive vibes, and wise counsel; Thank you all very much <3. I truly am grateful and will try my best to heed the advice.
I've just come home to grab a bite and rest - heading out again soon to meet a friend and maybe pay my cell bill as well (as if I need to be $80 poorer right now...). I haven't much energy to post more but just wanted to come on to say thanks to everyone that's trying to help, be constructive, and help me get on the 'right' track.

Get a cheaper phone plan. There is no need to spend $80 a month on your phone when you are struggling to support yourself.

Yup, prepaids are an option too I think. If it gets hairy you can use the Internet at the library and cut your data plan.

Prepaid isn't really an option here.
Not defending her choices. But we pay through the NOSE for phone here. I picked up a cheap burner phone and did prepaid when I visited the states a couple of years ago and was really impressed. That is not an option here. 80 is a bit high, but if its your only phone and you need to stay in touch with family she might not be able to knock it down too much. 50 bucks is about standard if you don't want to call much. |

Yes, phone plans can be quite expensive here in Canada, BUT now that small phone companies are emerging its starting to become more competitive. But if you really are experiencing "tougher times" having "top of the line price plan" would be the least of my concern. $80 a month is too much for someone who isnt making any money. At the moment when the going is tough, just get what you can afford. I have a dependable income but I still chose to shop for an affordable phone plan. $57 a month for Unlimited Canada wide calling, Unlimited SMS/MMS canada/int'l, 6 GB data and value pack.
