My parents moved us from the San Francisco Bay Area to Wilmington, NC., to east Tennessee . . . My life has been, since moving east, one continuous, "you're not from around here, are you," although I've gotten pretty good at camo, and Knoxville is a break.

Wilmington, when we were there, was totally the Old South and the question was always "where are your people from," or "are you related to Soandso?"

Weirdly, though, around Cocke County -- one of the places that outsiders have the worst perception of -- they're a helluva lot nicer and friendlier. They're more mountain types than traditional southerners though.

Well, if you follow the media narrative (and I mean Fox) you have a foreign born, socialist, white person hating angry black man who hates christians for a president. Can't really blame people for freaking out then (Now, the number of those who are just plain racist is not zero by a long shot, but I'll play along for now).

If instead you called him a christian centrist who isn't any farther to the left than Nixon (small praise I suppose, but the platforms are much closer than to the modern republican one: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=25841) who wants to raise taxes on the richest to at least slow the debt growth.....

You might differ in ideas, but when someone is do demonized where do you leave the people when they find they have to deal with him again? Its like trying to run out of a room with a tiger in it. (Its a cat, but you like dogs :P)

Yah but the problem is they allow themselves to be convinced he's a demon in the first place. It's an underlying issue of people wanting someone to hate, I think. I'm no psychologist, so I really don't understand how people become so convinced that someone is actively seeking to destroy the country.

They have opinions that differ from yours about how things should be done. That doesn't make them evil, just idiotic at best.

Believe it or not, many of the people signing those petitions are just fed up with the federal government in general, and are tired with how much it has overstepped its bounds.

I really wish people would refrain from stereotyping an entire group of people based on the actions and beliefs of a small few.

I'm very proud of our governor, Bobby Jindal, and I'm proud of his refusal to enact "Obama are" (I really hate that term). In fact, he recently told the federal government "You want it? YOU do it.".

I'm proud of the states, and the people in them, for taking a stand for what they believe.

I am guilty of not following what goes on in other states too closely......we normally have enough issues right here, LOL, so I don't know all the details of Texas right now......but....

I just wanted to agree with the above statement. It's not just who's president RIGHT NOW...it's a whole bale of straw that's been happening for a long time. There is eventually GOING to be that final staw that breaks it all wide open.

I used to think that -- but not anymore. I don't think the majority is willing to act. They aren't even willing to look beyond the first two names on a ballot.
