if your state was part of the war of northern aggression, you're a yankee (yes that includes CA & UT).

if you're from west of minnesota you're a westerner (except for CA & UT).

I think he adds a pinch of garlic too. It's frickin awesome and every time I eat there that's my side order. He also makes this amazing shepherd's pie with shredded barbecue beef stuffings, garlic mashed potatos on top, and then drowns everything with a thick layer of cheddar cheese that's always the perfect crispiness.

Then there's the crayfish remoulade served on fried green tomatoes. mmmmmmm

if you want to be truly technically correct, ONLY people from new england (CT, RI, MA, VT, NH & ME) are yankees.

We call them grits (well I call them gross but DH likes them). I don't consider myself a Yankee, but a Midwesterner. Not that I would be bothered to be a Yankee, but I associate that designation more with the northeast. Lol, I have heard Indiana referred to as the "northern most southern state" often though.
