If you can't find anything nice but cheap online, you can buy a metal under the bed frame cheap(you can't see them so they won't clash) and then when you have more $ to spend buy a nice one that matches. :-)

I ended up picking up a free metal frame from craigslist or freecycle or something. It's the kind that can extend out to be twin/full/queen depending on the box spring and mattress you have. Pretty sure you could pick up a set for $50 at any mattress store to tide you over until you can find the wood furniture you want.

Mine is a full from ikea. I think it's pine, very simple but I've had it probably 8 or so years. It came unfinished so I just put a thin layer of stain on it.

There are still full size made, they're just getting rarer. Queen and king sizes have the same length side rails, and, frankly, there's not that much market for full anymore. The difference in size between full and queen is 4" X 6".
Most of the full size beds that are available are either kid types (which are usually either of awful quality or exorbitantly expensive -- or both -- unless you go with a something like Pinecrafter.) http://www.pinecrafterfurniture.com/ The metal frame is a good idea. You can even cut a headboard from plyboard and cover it with some padding and fabric and bolt it to the frame. Just be sure you get a bolt on frame.
