If you buy books from Amazon, it going into your "cloud" and the kindle downloads them via WIFI. You can also load books in non-Amazon formats, like MOBI. If you are fan of the classics, you can download books for free from Project Gutenberg. http://www.gutenberg.org/ Amazon.com also has some free books.
You can use email or a cable connection to move documents from your computer to the Kindle. I always load my driving directions onto my Fire when I go on dog show trips. I have a few photos and some music on mine, but don't use those features that much. I definitely have my dog's breed standard on it.

The kindle can do library stuff too I believe. I know on the kindle you can lend books too that could come in handy.

Sorry about double post I'm on my phone. I've found quite a few amazon writers will give you a free copy of their book if you promise to review it.
