Anti-Breeder Attitudes?

I had someone friend request me (keep in mind, my facebook is Brigadoon Border Collies, very clearly a breeder) and then proceed to post ON MY WALL things like that. She got the boot right away.
Here is a summary on our breeding costs and what we've made back:

1st litter: Faith had to have an emergency c-section, +ultrasounds, x-rays, health testing and stud fee, got eclampsia after the puppies were 2 or so weeks, so we spent approximately $3,700. 5 puppies born, 1 died, 1 kept, so sold 3 puppies for around $800. Total: -$1,300.

2nd litter: Planned c-section at recommendation of a repro vet, +ultrasound, x-rays, and stud fees. Spent around $3,000. 5 puppies born, two kept, so three sold for around $800. Total: -$600.

3rd litter: Sadie's first litter, stud fees, ultrasound, x-rays, health testing, approximately $1,200. 3 puppies born, sold for around $800. Total: +$1,200. (yay)

Tried to breed Sadie twice, no success. -$750 (stud fee + medical expenses)

4th litter: Sadie's second litter. Imported semen from England, surgical implant, +blood test to determine pregnancy, x-rays, and emergency vet visit after she had been in labor for 11 hours with no puppies: Approximately $4,000 spent. 2 puppies born. Kept one puppy, sold the other for $1,000 (higher price because the litter was from imported semen and was so expensive to breed). Total: -$3,000.

Fiona bred, didn't take. -$750.

So, lets add that up.

-$1,300

+ $1,200
-$750
-$3,000
-$750

Grand total: -$5,200.

Let me go quit my day job and live off of my dogs!

I didn't realize there was an "anti-rescue" group. So they think....rescues should be shut down?

I've never heard anyone say "Oh my gosh, you got your dog from RESCUE?!" lol

I don't think anyone on this thread is anti-rescue. Heck a fair number of us, including the OP if I understand correctly, have rescue dogs.

I have issues with bad rescues and bad breeders. I am in full support of good rescues and good breeders. I don't see those positions as being in any way contradictory.

Oh all the time.

"Oh... you're dog is a RESCUE? Well...uhh.... how...nice...." *suddenly moves away and calls dog from playing with rescued dog, cause its contagious ya know*

"You got your dog from a rescue? So it's life is worth what....$50?"

"I can't believe you went to a rescue. They're just in it for the money."

"Do you ever think you'll get a real dog?"

Plus many pictures that I've seen just like those ones, basically saying that a rescue dog just could never be as good as a breeder dog.

Wow.... I know what you mean, Jess. Didn't think of that. I've come across those snobby people, too.


There is a couple that comes to the dog park and they asked me what Baloo was. I said "Your guess is as good as mine" and they started laughing. I assumed they thought what I said was funny, until they went on to say that rescue dogs aren't as pure or good as breeder dogs and that it was sad for poor Baloo that I didn't even know what he was. Uh... What? I'm pretty sure my dog doesn't give two shits what he is.

The OP said (or atleast acted) they were surprised there was this "group". It was more of "why be surprised? There's a group supporting the other side..." Meh.

I guess I was just really confused by what you meant. And still kind of am. You need to hang out with different people lol.
