Default And they called him Ugly (the Rajah story)

Some of you may have seen a pic i have posted in the past of my male Chinook Rajah next to my female Chinook Shady when she was little under a year old. If you havent seen the pic Rajah has the upright ears Chinooks can have and he looks like a large tan bat lol. Rajah is my only Chinook who came to me as a adult and his story is a pretty sad one.

Rajah was born and raised in America in Oregon. He was born into a world of rare relatives and sled training. Rajah stuck out from the begining not because of his large size and great muscle structure but those batty ears. Rajah lived in oregon until he was three and i saw an ad online for a Chinook for sale this was 2 years ago and i was really working on getting my Chinook breeding and racing into practice (I already owned three Chins at the time and had the money to bring in a new dog). There were no pups anywhere up for sale and so when i saw the ad for Rajah i jumped at it. A Pic was with his ad and i found him adorable with his bat ears. So I contacted his family who where pretty surprised I was interesting in this "ugly dog" as everyone else called him. I asked how his was health wise and he turned out pretty nice they even sent me his health records.

Now was the issue of getting Rajah to Manitoba i could'nt afford to pay for him to be flown and frankly flying a pet makes me nervouse. So the couple and i worked out that they would bring him in the winter time (it was fall) on one of their trips in canada for a race. And so a few months passed and Dave and Anna (the couple who owned Rajah) finally called saying they would be at my house in a week with Rajah. I was so excited and got everything ready for Rajah and his batty ears lol. When he arrived I was surprised at how big and strong he was (perfect wheel dog). He was all excited to be at my place as well running around checking everyone out and hopping around like im happy im happy lol. It took Rajah only a couple days to get settled in which was nice and i fell head over heels for his rolly poly body and always upright ears. He was a bit afraid of the huskies and Zeus since he had never known any other thing in his life before this but he got into it and found his place in the pack.

I get so many compliments when im at races about him and Heart (my other upright eared Chinook) about how beautiful they are. I have also bred Rajah once with one of my chinook bitches and sold all of those puppies to people who had known Rajah and hoped their pups might get those batty ears. Of course i did'nt just breed Rajah for his ears but his perfect health and wonderful personalitly and great build. Huh who would have thought i would have got all this from such a "ugly" dog.

Love those happy-ever-after stories!

I'd love to see a pic of Rajah. I bet his ears make him that more special.
