Favorite Grooming Tools?

I don't do much grooming, Quinn got the seconf brush of her life today.
I love clipping nails so I like my nail clippers and Buster's Furminator has been an absolute lifesaver, he has this husky/GSD type soft fluffy coat that is so thick and just gets everywhere so it's nice to be able to strip him back.

The furminator is definitely good at stripping, which is really why I don't use it. I have a good wild hair to do it now and then when I'm hating his coat...but then I remember how much I LOATHED his coat after a furminator use.

It's such an internal struggle. And we're going into winter now, so he's packing on that coat thick already. For such a BYB dog, he sure did get a show-Sibe coat. Unless he really is part Mal. Then it explains a lot.

Bleh. I might just take the vacuum to him tomorrow. Hah.

Honestly, I just use a QuickDraw and it's about $100 retail. It's a bit less powerful then the bigger/more expensive models, but it does okay for in-home use.

Metro also makes this one (used to dry motorcycles..) and it's only $62 and according to the reviews..people/groomers use it on dogs pretty regularly lol it looks the SAME as the dog one.. just not orange.

Despite the more cost over time, I'd rather use the forced air dryer at the do-it-yourself dog wash and let them clean up the mess because omg doing two is horrifying. It really does help with the fur tumbleweeds lol.

If you don't have an outlet outside or something. I would NOT recommend the forced air dryer on fluffy dogs.
It gets EVERYWHERE and flies everywhere.

This is why we have a vacuum at our self grooming place that can reach things like air vents..tiny corners..air conditioning vents..under stair steps..etc.. because it makes hair fly EVERYWHERE and anywhere.

It will cut down on grooming time.
but the time you will spend cleaning your house will be tripled lol

I couldn't do without my dremel and my zoom groom.

ETA: Lyzelle, you sure you used a good dremel? Because Raja has some of the hardest nails in the world, and I can get through them in no time if I kick the speed up on my dremel.

Hm. Well. I couldn't do it outside since we are on base.

Inside...I have two whole rooms I've been trying to dedicate as the "dog rooms". Bare, empty, carpet. It wouldn't be hard to clean those areas up. Although my vacuum kinda sucks. I mean, doesn't "suck" well. Hah.

I'll think about it, I guess. I have a good thing set up with dunking Zane in the tub and a combo of towel dry and my hair dryer for the thicker areas that would cause problems if I left them wet. Then all I have to do is throw all the towels in the dryer and vacuum.

It's possible. And could be partly because I was trying not to burn his nails. He didn't mind the dremel, but it took forever to do his nails. On the other hand, I got through all the other dogs' nails super easy and quick. So I'm not sure.

I was going to recommend a force dryer as well. Best thing I ever bought as far as grooming tools go! But, it does kinda suck during the fall and winter because the hair gets everywhere. I tend to only use it during nice weather outside and only use it inside when absolutely necessary. Otherwise I feel like I'm cleaning Toller hair up for ages... and she's not even heavy coated.

I am surprised you feel this way about the dremel. It's my other favourite grooming tool eventhough doing their nails is my least favourite dog chore. I find dremels are better for getting length off than a clipper is. I never use clippers on my dogs 1) because the Dobes' nails are way too thick and hard and 2) the dremel is just much more efficient at getting and keeping their nails short.
