My next sighthound is a Pharaoh Hound. We almost did it a few years back, a Minas Tirith son.

Someone needs a Cirneco. I like sighthounds but I just don't see myself with one ever. I just don't think I'm the right person for one.

Greys are the same size as great danes, and whippets aren't exactly small and delicate either so there should be no worry there.

My whippets are a bit on the slight side. But I would put whippets up there with most other medium sized breed in toughness. Mine live on a farm and play hard, run into each other full tilt, into things in general. They leap off things, get in the way.. in general live a fairly normal dog life with no injuries (except the other week when Dash found a porcupine..) The nice thing with whippets, you might be clumsy but they aren't the sort of dog to lie in your way and not move. They are very 'aware' dogs. You would have to work at stepping on them, unlike the cockers and JRTs.

Size also isn't a determining factor in toughness/sturdyness. Depending on the 'accident' I think sometimes small dogs fair better. Thinking about it I would put whippets on par with BC in physical toughness (NOT pain tolerance or mental toughness though!) Many a BC is relatively slight under all that hair and people don't think they will break a BC.

Anyways, thanks for the great input everyone. And the fantastic pictures. I want to curl up with all the adorable whippets right now. I'm sure we will have one someday, I still think it would solve all of the husband's problems, but until he comes around we will be whippet free.
