What do you train, in what order, and how do you do it?
I'm talking little puppies. So far we've learnt sit, lie down, leave, come. Working on lead walking. He only been here a week, so obviously needs lots of reinforcement and practice! Mixture of luring and clicker work. Working a lot on getting him interested in free shaping, slowly getting there! Once we have that down I imagine we'll get q lot more under our belt, just not sure where to start!

the first thing I ever started training with my puppies is recall
With the ones i have now we started recall, then sit, down, loose leash walking, and stay. Tricks and daily cues came later. With my puppy i'm getting this year I'm not sure, recall first of course, but since we plan to show and do rally..not sure what order I'll go in with him

Recall is a big thing for me too, as we walk off lead a lot. He's doing well so far
he is pretty easily distracted, but he's a puppy, so that can be forgiven!! Just trying not to set him up to fail! We're having our 1st session with a trainer in October... Never took Bodhi to classes, so should be interesting!!! Also start ringcraft very soon I hope. Fran - reading that list, it surprises me how many things we've been learning without officially thinking about it!!! I'd say we've touched on 90% of them!

I must be super lax or something. I haven't ever really set out with a plan. I just wing it. lol I honestly don't remember doing much with Mia when I first got her. It was mostly dragging her everywhere I could and lots and lots of playing.
I think with my next puppy we will learn shaping first and driving to a reward then work on 'real commands'. My biggest checklist is encouraging tug more, taking the puppy lots of places, encouraging play, meeting lots of people, general manners, that kind of thing. I will start shaping earlier with the next one and will be taking it to classes and hopefully trials as a pup too. But other than that I'm pretty happy with my approach with Mia.

Everything on Frans list plus major impulse control, restrained recalls and free shaping, finding the RF zone, balance disc's, crate games, building controlled drive, toy/tug/play drive with retrieves etc. the list goes on and on lol

I'm terrible.
I turn them over to the older dog to learn ![]() Bimmer's been stellar at it though <3 So was Bear. Actually, they've all done an excellent job in their turns, much better than I could
