Addie has MRSA
Long story short, Addie has MRSA, all over her body. She's on a spray with dex, chlorhexidine and amikacin (sp?) but we may be switching to chloranphenical (sp?) as an antibiotic soon.
She's also getting daily baths with 4% chlorhexidine shampoo. Anyone have any tips how to get over this, avoid getting it again? I'm at my wit's end with her and staph, and a little terrified at this point :/ I know she has a staph allergy, but she's on a grain free diet. Should I do a food trial, if so- what? Sorry I haven't been around much, things have been a tad nuts around here.

Hi...
I am not able to give help directly, but having a Shar Pei we are no strangers to potential skin issues. You might be able to find some help from the shar pei folk on the shar pei forum. I know that there has been discussion on that topic before. http://www.sharpeiforums.com/index.php Also if there is a breed specific forum for Frenchies people there may know a few helpful hints others may not.

I actually stay colonized with staph, and I've had two bad MRSA infections in my life (one resulted in icky damage to my lower obliques, uterus, and lower abdominal skin and whatnot). So I'm, unfortunately, all too familiar with staph.
You can't ever totally get rid of it. It's everywhere in the environment. Definitely support her immune system with proper nutrition. But often times it takes rounds of alternating antibiotics to get the infection under control, which you want to do as it can get NASTY. Also, how how long has she been on the dex? Steroids suppress the immune system, and that in turn can give the MRSA a boost in its stronghold.

Sorry to hear of the issues you are having with her :-(
In order for her to fully regain her health she needs to get off of the processed and packaged food. Even the best of the best packaged foods do not promote health.
