Oh gee...that was off topic, wasn't it. Hmmm. Well, how did that conversation evolve from rescue dogs not getting discipline? LOL.
Yeah, most people don't put as much training into their dogs as we do or effort. But most of them turn out fairly civilized in spite of it. After all, dogs and humans probably had a convergent evolution and we're just designed to live together. And most of the time, dogs do learn basic manners whether they're trained consciously or not. Of course, there are dogs with issues, otherwise we wouldn't need behavior specialists and the like. But all in all, when you look at all the dogs owned by average dog owners or worse, most dogs turn out pretty nice in spite of it. And I don't care what kind of manners or training a dog has as long as it doesn't directly affect me or my dogs and as long as they're not abused or mistreated.

To be clear, I don't care at all what people do in their own lives and homes with their own dogs. I tolerate behaviors from my own dogs at home that would make some people roll their eyes at best.
But if a dog is being a nuisance to others and/or in public, then they need to step up and either manage the situation or do some training. |

Highly likely - she's always with me when the crazies start to accost us. She often gets mistaken for a "doodle" though - which I can understand yet at the same time don't.
People just lose their heads over her - so do dogs. She's probably the only Kuvaszok in my immediate area. A Russian local that I know (see my Russian Man thread in the story forum) also had people and dogs alike "harassing" him when he first got his CAS. "Clint" (the dog) was not as tolerant/understanding as Katalin when these run ins occurred though.... I don't give a flying f&ck about what people do with their dogs at home or elsewhere - but DO NOT let them become public menaces or harass by standers/passersby! That woman with that d@mned terrier thing the other day made NO effort to restrain her dog that was snarling at us and attempting to attack Katalin and myself (the size logistic of it all just wasn't on his side - 80 + lbs and growing of guard dog against 12 lbs of yorkie/silkie). That is just...ugh...your dog is stirring trouble, your dog is visibly going after a passing dog, said dog's owner is asking you to get your dog - DO something about it! Quote:

This in a real big way!
My girls would go nuts if they weren't worked mentally as well as physically. And they would be nightmares in the hands of the average pet owner who couldn't give that type of dog basic rules/expectations/fullfill their basic needs. I mean look at how Scout fared in the average pet home and she was never abused (except for unsupervised toddlers chewing on her) or anything... I was couch hopping when I agreed to take her and it was still an immediate improvement and relief to her. Thats just sad! Of course I do stuff with them that other people can't stand from dogs. I regularly pull Lily up to husky ball in my lap and I don't give a crap if they get on all the furniture. |

Through Steve's rehab I've had to walk him three times a day and OMG I *hate* it. Part of the problem is that it's like playing freaking russian roulette- which dog is going to charge the fence at us today? Which off-leash dog will threaten my dogs today? Which dog will throw himself against the windows of the house snarling and scrabbling today? But the other part of it is that it's just boring as CRAP.
Hiking, yes. Walking, blah.

I don't train my dog on a regular basis. he's not perfectly behaved at all. Im a pretty "average" dog owner but I don't own a dog who needs anymore than that. Would he enjoy more? Sure. But he is quite content living an average life.
