Hypothetical Moral Dilemma!! sacrificing a shelter dog for its organs

I couldn't.

A transplant isn't a guarantee fix. Even if I was told the other dog was 100% going to be put down I don't think I could. If my dog died anyway not only did I just prolong her suffering I killed another animal to do it. And that's not something I could be ok with.

Aside from the insane cost, the complications, etc..I would ONLY do it with an animal that is being put to sleep for extreme behavior issues or acute trauma in which they would were dying anyway. Even if the dog is being put to sleep for lack of space in a shelter, it wouldn't feel right. I really don't think I would though, I would have to wonder about the quality of life of my pet. If I ever even thought of a kidney transplant on a dog 4-5+ years old, I would put that dog to sleep and go adopt the dog that is being euthanized for no space.

This may not be popular but if it was for Daisy? Christ I'd do anything for this dog, so yes.

If the question is, would I sacrifice another dog to save Elsie? the answer is yes. While I know morally that's not right, I would.

If the question is, would I put Elsie through a major organ transplant, with current medical technology? The answer is probably not, no.

After thinking on it some more, I don't think I'd be okay with a healthy otherwise stable dog being PTS for lack of space so that my dog could get a major organ transplant.

On the flip side, if there was a need for tissues that could be harvested from those dogs that are being PTS and used to help treat other dogs... say, blood, plasma, skin for grafts, etc. I wouldn't have a problem with that. I don't know, it's such a weird thing.

I wouldn't if the other dog had a shot at life. Otherwise, yes, I'm in favor of dog organ/tissue donors as much as I am in favor of human ones.

That said, I do agree that I probably wouldn't go through with an organ transplant for my dog.
