I went to register for school today and left with a packet of papers. One was a list of clubs and, since it's an hour bus ride on public transport, decided to read through it.
The one that stood out the most was the one labeled "Teenage Parents Club." The part that made me crack up, though, was the description. This is a quote from the paper: Quote:
What's even funnier? There's a Planned Parenthood right across the street. The school is pretty big, but I don't think that justifies seeing half a dozen obviously pregnant girls a day. And that's just the ones who are showing...

lol my high school class had way too many girls knocked up.
I read an article that recently the numbers are decreasing due to a lot of factors such as 16 & pregnant, better education programs, easier access to BC, etc. Here's hoping, most of us would not be suited for life as a teen mom.

lol the things you don't get to experience when you go to private catholic school..
Don't get me wrong, a handful of girls got pregnant..but the support of the school certainly wasn't there. We also had a planned parenthood nearby, thank goodness, they did all the education/provided the supplies our school never did. lol the club is a good idea but they might need some help with the flyers! what a weird way to put it lol "hey mama, hey papa.." |

Seems like everyone I knew from school on my Facebook newsfeed is pregnant, has had a kid, or has had more than one kid. None of them older than me, most of them a lot younger. Its crazy to me that such young kids are having kids of their own. It's like some kind of fad or something! My friend in high school got pregnant at 16 because she WANTED to. She told me way before she got pregnant that she "wanted to be a mom" and was hoping getting pregnant would make the guy she was with, stay with her. She hasn't seen the guy since (he wasn't even there when the baby was born, I was) and the kid is like 3 or 4 now. It's sad. And EVERYONE on my news feed is in the SAME situation. Pregnant or a mother with no spouse or even boyfriend.

Granted my lil public high school was probably more uptight than my husband's openly religious institution.

I meant, my catholic school would never have a support group for teen mom/dads. Because it was against the rules to be a married student and against the bible to be having sex when you aren't married.. soooo a group for unmarried teen parents wouldn't be something the school would ever get behind. I loved my high school for many reasons and academically, it was an amazing school with great teachers. But yea, open minded...not so much. |

And yeah we always said that if someone in our class got pregnant, we'd only know because they'd suddenly "head overseas" mid school year or something like that. Because the communal condemnation would be ridiculous and never allow the girl to attend school while openly pregnant, even if there wasn't a rule against it.

I wonder how they ended up supporting that little bundle of love. Flipping burgers doesn't exactly pay well.

I always get really sad when these young pregnant girls say they just want a baby so they have someone who loves them. Especially since babies are (by necessity) very selfish little things! |
