Ceitidh had no muscle at all when we got her. She pretty much only has leaded walks, and she is building muscle, slowly but surely. I don't think its as good as other forms of exercise, but I think it can be done (depending on the walk).

Well that's some sound advice.

Is there any way you could bike with your dog, just by the side of the bike? I'm not sure how that would work for a corgi... But I've been biking up to 3 miles a day with my dog and she is getting visible muscles especially in her hind legs and seems to have lost a little weight.

I know some show Boxers who were pretty well muscled by mostly walks, of course they were also genetic predisposed to being muscled too. They were walked on Flexis for at least a 2-3 miles a day. I think walks on flexis will give your dog a much better work out than just leash walks. On flexis mine will walk a lot further than me because they go out around, come back to me and it also gives them a chance to walk faster or trot.

I have a Corgi that I needed to get into shape for flyball as well I took her on walks and encouraged her to pull and that really helped her core/hind legs. I also ran with her (2-6 miles) on and off and she will learn to run next to a bike this summer. She loves to run. I also have a long room in my house and I throw kibble for her to chase and then sprint back to me and do obedience (sit/down etc) and then sprint again. We made a push board and I taught her to run down, do her swimmer's turn off it and sprint back for kibble (this is how she earned dinner). I also found that teaching her to sit pretty and then lay down and back and forth helped to build her core muscles as well.

I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out when you got a new dog. Then realized this thread is ancient and before my time here lol

Yeah, holy old threads batman.

Izzy was Frodo's littermate who lived with me for 3 years, wasn't NEARLY the PITA that he brother is, and now lives with a different family due to crappy circumstances, including SSA with my mom's senior poodle mix.
