Dog shoes, or...?
Quick question for those who have dogs with soft feet: How do you keep them from falling apart?
Zero's energy is through the roof since he can't go off leash anymore and is pretty much uncontrollable when he tries to let loose. I've been walking him and attempting running, but I'm not able to run as long as he needs and when I try it doesn't seem to help. He runs beautifully with bikes, but he doesn't pick up his feet or his pads are too soft or something because the pavement rips his feet to shreds. Are dog shoes appropriate for running? I imagine they'd be uncomfortable, but I have no idea. How do you condition a dog's foot for abrasive surfaces?

Tango has soft feet but he probably always will because he gets most of his exercise inside on a mat instead of outside (He runs circles around the staff at work when I take him in early) He doesn't mind these neat little booties when the weather is gross:
http://pawzdogboots.com/gallery/ They are fairly thin too so they might help Zero's feet build up without ripping the skin off of them initiall? There's also Mushers Secret.

I use the Pawz boots on Steve when it's really muddy (and to cover his foot bandages when I walk him at flyball tournaments if it's raining) but they don't hold up tremendously well. You might do better with sled dog booties (try dogbooties.com), though they are meant to be disposable so they're not very heavy duty.
You might consider trying Tuf Foot as well.

I actually have some of those Pawz boots from forever ago. Never thought to try them for this as I mostly used them to cover a foot bandage as well; I'll try them out to see how well they hold up to Zero's shuffle-footed gait.
Tuf Foot looks promising! I might have to try that one if the Pawz boots don't work out.

LOL, poor Zero!!
As far as nice boots that hold up, the Ruff Wear Grip Trex boots are pretty amazing, and meant to be worn all seasons. They're not cheap though :/ They do stay on better than any of the other brands, at least that is my experience with customers who buy them from us. http://www.ruffwear.com/Barkn-Boots-...=2&category=11
