Fluffy dogs and water

Anyone else notice this "problem?" Coat type, or just temperament?

Buster has a thick, wooly coat, at least as think as a GSD and bordering on some huskies I've felt. Its a very dry coat though, and he seems to share the same disdain of water as most huskies. Spitz types aren't known for swimming.

Most retrievers have a much thinner coat, but more oily, and quicker to dry if the undercoat gets wet.

German Shepherds seem to like the water though, and they have fairly thick coats.

I have a couple of fluffy water dogs here (see signature). They are maltese dogs who have been swimming all their lives and totally love it. Their coats are thin though; single coat (not double); one dog is silkier than the other. As far as coat type go for water, I honestly don't see it a problem. As far as temperamants go, they are half fish lol ... Not but really, they spend half their lives in water. I find them super cool little dogs for this fact

Elsie loves the water, and she's got a long double terv coat. I'm told that's not typical, though.

I very much had to train Lucy to go in the water. She'd splash in knee high water, but refused to get her tummy or back wet. I spent all of last summer rewarding her for going in the water (with a black coat and 100* heat, it's the only way to spend any time outside)

Jackson is a water freak but he doesn't have much hair (since I keep it short). If I let it grew long, I have a feeling he'd still be a water fool, but then again it would still be a thin single-coated type of long hair so different.

Lilly, dads JRT mix, has the thin wire-haired-type like a JRT and hates the water. lol. Buddy, the long haired Dachshund mix, hates the water too and his coat is pretty thick when it grows out. So I dunno, I guess I'm kind of all over the map.

I think its temperament and dogs being introduced to water properly at a young age. The variety we see at dock dog events is too much to base it only on coat, imo.

All of my dogs love the water, they're waders more than swimmers and it's darned near impossible to keep them out of a body of water. Murphy has a double coat, he does have GSD in him and I'm guessing there's a husky in the mix, too. He doesn't care how hot or cold it is, if there's water around, he's in it... except for the wading pool... he doesn't do wading pools unless it's ice he can sit on.

Well, Buster might just be sane. His fur does take a while to dry if it gets really soaked. He stayed out of the ocean today (Oregon, 50f air, 45f water) where Ruby and I went trouncing about the surf.

I tripped over a rock and the K100d seems to be dead.

Buster stayed dry.

Aw, that does suck... was the impact or did it get wet?

If wet, I've read you can dry electronics out by wrapping the item in a paper towel and using those little packets of silica to draw out the moisture.
