Default Crash issues.

Guys, I've got a question here.

Crash has come a LONG way from when we first brought him home. A lot of his "issues" have all but disappeared or at least lowered a LOT. The biggest issue I'm having now is that something about my Mom makes him crazy. If she comes down the stairs just a moment after me, he makes NO noise when I come down, but if my mom comes, he starts barking and spinning in his crate like crazy. If she's down in the living room, he barks and spins in the dog room. If I'm down here, or Dad and I are down here, he makes no noise and will even go lay down and nap (usually when it's just me). If I crate him, he is quiet, no noise. If my mom does it, he screams/yips/barks.

Now, the only really huge thing that I can see is that I've done all of his training. We've gone through several levels of obedience together and he's pretty bonded to me. That said, he has a huge amount of respect for my dad, too, and dad has done very little with him, but has done more to bond with him than mom has.

As of right now, I'm having mom tell him no and if he doesn't stop, putting him in his crate. I'm thinking it's a lot to do with how lax she is and what he can get away with with her. But that doesn't explain the stairs thing. Seriously. Mom and I are pretty close in weight. We go down the stairs the same way. The other day we went down one after the other, me first, and when I hit the bottom, she started down and he started barking. If I tell him "Quiet." he stops. If she does, he just blows it off and keeps going. Mind you, he never starts barking when it's just me... only for mom.

We really need to do something about it. Sadly, mom doesn't really have time to take him on as her dog in terms of training, as she hardly does anything with her current dogs... I guess I could try to desensitize him to the sound of her coming down the stairs, but I don't know that he'd even try to do it with me there.

Thoughts?

You don't go down the stairs the same way. Trust me. My mom and I weigh similarly as well and also have a frighteningly identical way of skipping down stairs. My dogs only see my mom a couple times a year and they can still all easily tell which of us is coming down the stairs. In their case the difference in reaction is simply greater interest if it's me, not barking, but the point holds true.
