Haven't heard much on SOPA here. (though its all over everywhere else)
THe long and the short of it its a crazy bill the US is trying to put though. Ostensibly to stop pirating, though many say its not going to dent that. But it will give the gov a lot more control... and it has many bad 'side effects' What sites will you miss tomorrow. Of course I will miss Reddit. And I hope I don't need to wikipedia anything as its going down too. http://www.popsci.com/technology/art...cy-legislation http://money.cnn.com/2012/01/16/tech....htm?hpt=hp_t3 Are chazzers aware of this issue? Even though its a US issue it will have global effects. Quote:

I am aware of it... My SO is very much interested in these issues.
He follows several blogs and sites that deal with copyright and piracy related information. He is very much involved with the anti copyright movement.

A lot of the flack against it isn't so much ani piracing as it is crazy un doable without risk to many sites. A user posts a link to a page that has a link to some copyright material and the website owner is liable.
That is just crazy. |

me too, it's amazing how much impact the community in general has had, even if, in the grand scheme of things, it is small.
i read most of my news on reddit these days. paying attention to comments to understand various sides makes understanding the stories as a whole much easier, i think. and it's my go-to laugh source.

SOPA has sort of been killed, since the author has tabled it. However, it's not totally gone and it NEEDS to be. Otherwise, under the guise of SOPA, we'll lose most of the internet; Chazhound itself could be found liable of copyright infringement and shut down.

i had read somewhere that them tabling it could just be a tactic to have PIPA passed?

It's entirely possible. The internet is the last bastion of truly free and unedited speech and that p*sses off a lot of people. Whether it's "anti-terroism" or "for the children" or "piracy", there's some hollow spearheading reason why someone else should get to dictate what you can and cannot access.
Because China and Iran totally have the right idea.
