Itchy skin question

My golden boy is getting dry itchy skin this time of year. He's itching to the point of hotspots and hair loss. I just switched him to a higher protein grain free food hoping that this will help. I was also wondering if I could add olive oil to his food a few times a week to help. If so how much should I add? He's about 85lbs. If you all have any other natural remedies for this it would be quite welcome.
